Pierre BONCOMPAIN was born in 1938 at Valence.
Classical studies at Lycée Emile Loubet in Valence and Collège Saint Joseph in Avignon.

1959 Entered the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (head of his class).
1963 Entered the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Legueult Studio, Collioure Prize.
1970 Among the nominated for the Charles Paquement Prize, Friends Museum of Modern Art. Critic's special award.
1972 Resident at the Foundation of the Lourmarin Castle (Provence).
1977 On a cultural assignement in India with the writers Robert Sabatier and Michel Tournier and the painter Francois Bret, executive for the Marseille's school of Fine Arts.

Since 1961, he had many exhibitions. In addition to its presence in Artfrance in Paris which made pesonal exhibition of his works every three years since 1976, many events take place in France and abroad, including: in 1975-78-79 the David Findlay Galleries in New York (USA), 1982-86 Bellefontaine Gallery in Lausanne (Switzerland), 1985 Artfrance-Danis-Stinson Gallery in Palm Springs (USA) ,1988-98-01 exhibitions in Japan organized by the Gallery Kajikawa Kyoto (Japan) ,1995-96-99 Bruton Street Gallery in London (Great Britain) ,1996-2000-2003-2006 Hammer Gallery in New York (USA).

Several museums and foundations made retrospective of his work:
1980 BP Foundation, Antwerp, Belgium, 1988 Moraíto Museum in Japan, 1990 Chateau de Chenonceau (France), 1993 Musée de Valence (France), 1997 and 2000 Singer Museum in Laren (Netherlands), 1998  Musée des Beaux Arts à Menton (France), 1998 Navio Museum in Osaka (Japan), 2000 Johnson and Johnson Foundation New Jersey (USA) and realization of a large mural, 2002 Shanghai Art Museum in Shanghai (China), 2004 "French May in Hong Kong", Artfrance and Kwaï Fung Hin Art Gallery, Hong Kong Artfrance, Paris (May-June)  - October 2005 Musée de Valence, June-September 2008 Retrospective at Château de Vascoeuil - Normandy.

Boncompain is also present in international exhibition of art, 1996 Europ'Art in Geneva (Switzerland) 1997 Art Fair in Hong Kong, in 1997 and 1999 stand Artfrance was devoted to his work at London International Art Fair (Great - Britain).

He has illustrated great texts for Bibliophile editions, including "The Song of Songs" Editions
Art'e, Bologna (Italy).
